Radhika Bhatt is a civic technologist and community organizer who is passionate about using human centered design for good. As the Director of Civic Engagement with The Opportunity Project (TOP) at the Census Open Innovation Labs, she manages TOP’s 12-week sprints, leads engagement with companies, universities, and civic tech organizations, and facilitates design thinking workshops with TOP participants. Radhika is passionate about integrating human centered design with her work to improve cross-sector collaboration, innovate on how open data is utilized, and grow engagement between technologists and the government.


Previously, she worked at Fjord Design Studio at Accenture Federal Services as an Interaction Designer creating digital experiences for various Federal clients. She utilized service design skills to facilitate workshops with Federal employees to identify problems, ideas, and solutions to resolve agency-wide challenges, and worked on designing tools to improve IT infrastructure, cybersecurity training, and customer experience. Prior to that, Radhika was a UX Designer and Front End Developer with the Commerce Data Service at the U.S. Department of Commerce, where she designed websites to make Commerce data more accessible to the public. As part of this work, she designed and built a data portal for the National Institute of Standards in Technology (NIST) and redesigned a website for the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA). She also taught design and user experience classes to help upskill Commerce employees, and has continued to teach design methods outside of work to local technologists.


Additionally, Radhika recently spent a year India volunteering with various communities for the goal of language immersion, and is fluent in Gujarati. She is heavily involved in the DC tech community as a mentor and organizer, and is a 2-time winner of the DC FemTech Powerful Woman in Design award.
